Hadendowa warriors

Support for the Mahdist uprising in the Red Sea Littoral was drawn from a number of tribes, most prominent among them the Hadendowa, characterised by extraordinary bravery and big hair. Rudyard Kipling immortalised them in his poem Fuzzy Wuzzy.

I have completed my Hadendowa army for now. Each rub comprises three bands of 16 warriors, one armed with rifles, and two armed with swords and spears.

I may add some more camel mounted warriors in due course.

Osman Digna’s artillery: two brass mountain guns and a Krupp 75mm, the latter crewed by captured Egyptians, all commanded by Digna’s nephew Fai.
The black rub lead by Muhammad Mussa, Osman Digna’s cousin.
The red rub lead by Mahsud Musa, another of Digna’s cousins.
The green rub, lead by Madani bin Ali, Osman Digna’s nephew.
The blue rub, lead by Abdallah bin Hasid.
